Peer Review Process

Peer-review Policy

General information

The following types of manuscripts are single-blind peer-reviewed: Research articles, Brief reports, Hypotheses, Reviews, Case reports. Editorials, Research highlights, Commentaries, and all forms of published correction may also be peer-reviewed at the discretion of the editors.

Selecting peer-reviewers

Reviewers are very important for maintaining the journal’s quality and reputation by pointing out the manuscript flaw, suspected plagiarism, inappropriate image manipulation, and ethical issues. Therefore, reviewer selection is critical to the publication process, and we take many factors into account, including expertise, reputation, specific recommendations. All reviewers must be selected by our editors which means we don’t accept the recommendation of reviewers from authors since it is the major concern of review manipulation or compromised review. Editors will email selected Reviewers the title and abstract of the manuscript, as well as a link for logging into the journal website to complete the review.

Review guidelines

  • The reviewer should accept manuscripts for review only in his/her areas of expertise, and try to complete the review job on time. If it can’t be completed by the deadline, the reviewer should immediately contact the editor.
  • The reviewer should provide a reliable and helpful assessment of the manuscript. It is necessary that the reviewer could point out the strengths and weaknesses of the research, provide suggestions for improvement, and raise ethical concerns.
  • The reviewer should also maintain confidentiality about his/her involving in the peer-review process of the manuscript.
  • The reviewer must not plagiarize the idea or data from the manuscript reviewed by him/her since this kind of scandal has already happened in other journals.
  • The reviewer should always disclose any conflicts of interest before acceptance of the review job, which include but not limited to that the reviewer had cooperation with the authors on research, grant application, and patent application.

Peer Review processes

Each journal has enlisted the members of an Editorial Board with broad expertise in many relevant research areas. The name and affiliation of each member must be displayed in the information page of editorial board. Generally peer review is completed within 4-8 weeks and the editor’s decision within 7-14 days of this.

Publication Frequency

This journal utilizes CONTINUOUS publication to ensure papers are published and added to the current volumes as soon as they are ready.

Open Access Policy

Article Processing Charges (APCs)

Smart Science & Technology publishes all its journals in full open access format. The scientific community and the general public have, for free, unlimited and immediate access to all content published in our journals as soon as it is published on the Internet. This means that Smart Science & Technology does not receive any income from selling subscriptions to print or view online versions of its journals or from charging "pay-per-view" fees. Therefore, Smart Science & Technology needs to defray its editorial and production costs by collecting APCs from author(s) or authors' sponsors.  Many funding agencies explicitly allow the use of research grants for the payment of APCs for publishing in open access journals. An APC covers the entire cost of the publication process if paper is accepted for publication. This includes peer-reviewing, editing, publishing, maintaining and archiving, and allows immediate access to the full text versions of the research articles. Our APCs for all types of articles is $1280.
