Macrophage is a peer-reviewed, open access journal dedicated to the publication of papers covering macrophage biology in normal development and in pathology. Macrophages, the most plastic cells of the haematopoietic system, are found in all tissues and show great functional diversity. Although tissue macrophages are anatomically distinct from one another, and have different transcriptional profiles and functional capabilities, they are all required for the maintenance of homeostasis. Moreover, macrophages have emerged as important therapeutic targets in many human diseases. The goal of this journal is to advance our understanding of the role of macrophages in development, homeostasis, tissue repair and immunity.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Macrophage biology
  • Molecular mechanisms of macrophage activation and deactivation
  • Macrophage phagocytosis
  • Mechanisms of macrophage activation
  • Macrophage defense mechanisms against intracellular bacteria
  • Macrophage polarization and its mechanism
  • Immunobiology of the macrophage
