Neurotransmitter is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal that encompasses all basic and translational aspects of neurotransmitters in normal and pathological conditions, including synthesis, storage, release, biological activity through specific receptor targets and associated signaling pathways, metabolism, reuptake through neurotransmitter transporters, drugs that modulate these steps, and novel techniques for its study.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Neurotransmitter biosynthesis
  • Neurotransmitter transporters
  • Neurotransmitter receptors
  • ion channels
  • Synaptic transmission
  • Synaptic vesicles
  • Neurotransmitters in diseases
  • Neurotransmitters and signal pathway
  • Novel therapeutic strategies target to neurotransmitters

Hugo Rubén Arias
Department of Medical Education, California Northstate University College of Medicine, Elk Grove, CA, USA

Present Position:

Founding Professor of Pharmacology and Biochemistry, Department of Medical Education, California Northstate University College of Medicine (CNUCOM), Elk Grove, CA, USA.

Assistant Dean of Research, COM, Elk Grove, CA, USA.

Director, International Center of Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, CNUCOM, Elk Grove, CA, USA.

Research Interest:

Since 1984 Dr. Arias has worked in the field of ligand-gated ion channels, more particularly on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChRs). In the last 10 years, Dr. Arias has focused his attention on the role of AChRs in depression, anxiety, drug and nicotine addictions, diseases with cognition impairment (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, and Huntington’s disease), angiogenesis, and wound healing.
